Yi-Jun Xu is currently a full professor at Fuzhou University. He received his B.S. degree from East China University of Technology in 2000, M.S. degree from Fuzhou University in 2003, and his Ph.D. degree from Cardiff University in 2006. From 2007 to 2009, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society. His research group works in the area of heterogeneous photoredox catalysis, mainly focusing on the design of composites based catalysts, the fundamental studies of catalyst structures and catalytic reaction mechanisms, and exploring their versatile redox catalytic applications in heterogeneous photocatalysis.

Botao Qiao received his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2008. After 3 years’ postdoctoral research in Prof. Tao Zhang’s group at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he joined the same group in 2011 and was promoted to a full professor in 2017. Under the supervision of Prof. Zhang, he developed single-atom catalyst by practical method based on which they put forward the concept of “single-atom catalysis”. Now his research interests are mainly focused on the fundamental understanding of single-atom catalysis in energy conversion and environmental catalysis and on promoting the practical application of single-atom catalysts. He is currently an editorial board member of a few journals and has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers with over 15,000 citations.

Yong Wang received his B.S. degree from Xiangtan University and his Ph.D. degree from Zhejiang University. He rejoined Zhejiang University and became a professor for Chemistry in 2011. Now he is Ph.D. supervisor, director of Institute of Catalysis at Department of Chemistry in Zhejiang University. He was included in the Highly Cited Researcher list by Clarivate Analytics 2020 and 2021 (Web of Science™, Thomson Reuters) in the field of Cross‐Field and Chemistry, respectively. Hai-Long Jiang is a professor of chemistry at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He received Ph.D. degree from Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008 and subsequently work as AIST and JSPS fellow at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST, Japan) in 2008–2011. After a postdoctoral stint at Texas A&M University, he joined the faculty of USTC in 2013. Qi-Long Zhu is a professor at Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received his Ph.D. degree in physical chemistry from FJIRSM-CAS in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Xin-Tao Wu. He then joined Prof. Qiang Xu's group at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST, Japan) as the postdoctoral and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellow. He held a full professorship in 2017 at FJIRSM-CAS. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers. His group currently focuses on the development of porous and nanostructured materials for catalytic and energy-related applications.

Jie Zeng is a professor at Hefei National Research Center for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, University of Science and Technology of China. Jingshan Luo is a full professor and vice director of the Institute of Photoelectronic Thin Film Devices and Technology at Nankai University. He received his B.S. degree in Jilin University in 2010 and his Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University in 2014. After that, he went to École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland for postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Michael Grätzel, where he led the solar fuel subgroup. In 2018, he joined Nankai University. Jingshan Luo has authored/co-authored more than 110 peer-reviewed publications in Science, Nat. Energy, Nat. Qian Wang is currently an associate professor at Nagoya University, Japan. She obtained her Ph.D. in 2014 at the University of Tokyo and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Japan Technological Research Association of Artificial Photosynthetic Chemical Processes (ARPChem). In 2018, she became a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Guodong Li is a professor at National Center for Nanoscience and Technology. He received his B.S. degree from University of Jinan in 2004, M.S. degree from Ocean University of China in 2007, and Ph.D. degree from Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2011. Then, he joined National Center for Nanoscience and Technology. He was a visiting scholar in Stanford University from 2016 to 2017. Bin Zhang received his Ph.D. degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2007. He carried out postdoctoral research at University of Pennsylvania (July 2007 to July 2008) and worked as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (August 2008 to July 2009). Currently, he is a professor at Tianjin University and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Menny Shalom was born in 1979 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He received his B.S. in chemistry in 2007 from Bar-Ilan University. Afterward, he pursued M.S. and Ph.D. degrees under Prof. Arie Zaban at Bar-Ilan University, researching quantum dot sensitized solar cells. He then joined Prof. Markus Antonietti at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPI), Germany, as a Minerva fellowship fellow for his postdoc. From 2013 to 2016, he was appointed as a group leader in MPI, and since the end of 2016, he has been an associate professor at Ben‐Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. His group focuses on synthesizing new materials for energy conversion applications, mainly photo-electrochemical cells and electrocatalysts. Menny’s group has published more than 50 papers in well-known journals. Sihui Zhan received his Ph.D. degree in Inorganic Chemistry from Shandong University and then joined Nankai University in 2007. He is now a full professor in College of Environmental Science and Engineering. Prof. Zhan’s research interests focus on water pollution control chemistry, which aims to remove the refractory organic pollutants from water. He has published more than 100 SCI papers with over 5000 total citations. Ya-Qian Lan received his Ph.D. (2009) from Northeast Normal University, under the supervision of Prof. Zhong-Min Su. In 2010, he joined the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST, Japan) working as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow. In 2012, he became a professor of chemistry at Nanjing Normal University. He joined South China Normal University in 2021, and is now a professor of chemistry. Xiaoxin Zou has received his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Jilin University in June 2011; and then moved to University of California, Riverside, and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, as a postdoctoral scholar from July 2011 to October 2013. He is currently a professor at the State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry in Jilin University. His research interests are in hydrogen energy materials chemistry, comprising the elucidation of the atomic basis for water splitting electrocatalysts, the prediction and searching of efficient catalysts with novel crystal structures as well as the preparative technology of industrial water splitting catalysts. Some of his recent progresses include the computation-driven structural design/engineering of water splitting catalysts, the structural understanding and synthetic methods of interstitial intermetallic catalysts, the design principles of low-iridium oxygen-evolution catalysts for PEM electrolyzers, and the synthetic technology of large-area, highly stable electrode materials for alkaline electrolyzers. Brian A. Rosen is an associate professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tel Aviv University and the Director of the Energy Materials Laboratory. Prof. Rosen's lab specializes in the design of novel ceramic catalysts for fuel cells (PEMFC, AFC, H2/NH3-SOFC), and synthetic fuel production (H2, NH3, syngas) via thermochemical and electrochemical routes. Ian D. Sharp received a Ph.D. in materials science & engineering from University of California, Berkeley in 2006, after which he moved to the Walter Schottky Institute at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), first as an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow and later as a Fellow of the TUM Institute for Advanced Study. In 2011, he accepted a position at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a Staff Scientist, working primarily at the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP). In 2017, Prof. Sharp was appointed to the Chair for Experimental Semiconductor Physics in the Walter Schottky Institute at TUM, where his group investigates functional semiconductors, interfaces, and structures for solar energy conversion, with an emphasis on photoelectrochemical production of renewable fuels. He is the recipient of the US Department of Energy Early Career Award, as well as a European Research Council Consolidator Grant.

Dengwei Jing is now a full professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in the same university and is now focusing on the solar energy conversion and hydrogen production. He is the winner of National Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, Newton Advanced Fellowship of Royal Society, and chief scientist of the first China National Key R&D program related to solar hydrogen production. He has published more than 160 SCI-indexed papers and 2 English books and authorized over 30 Chinese patents. He has won the second prize of National Natural Science Award and the first prize of Shaanxi Science and Technology Award.

Chenliang Su is a full professor at International Collaborative Laboratory of 2D Materials for Optoelectronics Science and Technology of Ministry of Education at Shenzhen University (2015 to present). After that he worked as a research fellow at Department of Chemistry at National University of Singapore (2010 to 2015). Weilin Xu received his Ph.D. degree from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006. He did postdoc research at Cornell University, University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab from 2007 to 2011. After that, he built his own research group in CIAC by focusing on energy-process related basic and practical research, including the single-molecule nanocatalysis, the developing of functional materials for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen-evolution reaction (OER), hydrogen-evolution reaction (HER), CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) and nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR), and so on.

He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in University of California, Los Angeles, from 2009 to 2011. At 2021, he joined School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University. Bao Yu Xia is currently a full professor in School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Minkee Choi received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) under the supervision of Prof. Ryong Ryoo (chemistry). Then, he joined the group of Prof. Enrique Iglesia in Department of Chemical Engineering at University of California, Berkeley as a postdoctoral research fellow. After 2 years postdoctoral experience, he joined the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at KAIST as a faculty (December, 2010).
