We publish scholarly journals, books, news and data. Some of this material is freely available; some of it is only available to subscribers. The following summary offers a quick overview of the data processing activities that are undertaken on our website. You will find more detailed information under the indicated sections below.
When you visit our website for informational reasons without setting up an account, only limited personal data will be processed to provide you with the website itself (see Ⅲ). If you are identified as belonging to a customer organization then we collect information in order to be able to provide usage reporting to that customer.
In case you register for one of our services, subscribe to our newsletters or journals, further personal data will be processed in the scope of such services (see Ⅳ).
Additionally, we improve your website experience with third party content (see Ⅵ).
Furthermore, your personal data will be used to provide you with relevant advertising for our services and products (see Ⅶ) and for statistical analysis that helps us to improve our website (see Ⅷ).
Your personal data may be disclosed to third parties (see Ⅸ) that might be located outside your country of residence; potentially, different data protection standards may apply (see Ⅸ).

Personal data: means any information relating to a natural person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, or an online identifier.
Processing: means any operation which is performed on personal data, such as collection, recording, organization, structuring, storage, adaptation or any kind of disclosure or other use.
While you visit our websites without registering and without providing us with personal data in any other form, your visits to individual pages will be tracked and recorded in web server log files (“Log Data”), which will contain personal data only in limited cases and which is automatically recognised by our server. Log Data may be used by Tsinghua University Press for statistical purposes, to recognize patterns of usage of the websites, and to improve the structure and content presentation. The usage information we collect (using HTTP Cookies), includes your IP address, browser and device characteristics ( type, name and IDs),referring URLs, the date and time of your requests or visit, the content of your requests or visit, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), your screen resolution, information on your operating system including language settings.
We use such information only to assist us in providing an effective service (e.g. to adapt our website to the needs of your device or to allow you to log in to our website), and to collect broad demographic information for anonymised, aggregated analysis. This processing occurs because it is necessary to meet our legitimate interests in operating and improving the website, analysing its use, and ensuring its security.
If you are identified by IP or equivalent method as belonging to a customer organization such as university or a company then we will also collect the identity of that organization and use it to create usage reports which show the organization how much of the content we publish is being read by their students, members or employees. This information does not contain anything related to a personal login unless (a) you are a nominated administrator for that organization or (b) your organization specifically requires it as a part of a usage-based access contract.
To make use of personalized services, you will have to register a user account with our websites. The data collected from registered users includes information that makes communication possible for the editorial process，aggregated data on submissions and publications, as well as information tracking geopolitical and social elements of scholarly communication. The journal’s editorial team on this platform uses this data to guide its work in publishing and improving their journal. Data will also assist in developing this publishing platform. Therefore, during registration we will ask you to provide some personal information, including, but not limited to, your name, valid e-mail address, affiliation, postal address, phone number, password, academic degree, position within your institution or organization, your research interests, and credit card or other payment information. Some of this information is required to properly set up the user account for you to use all of Tsinghua University Press’s services. Tsinghua University Press may use this information to fulfil our contract with you (e.g. the publication of your article). Furthermore, Tsinghua University Press may also use this information internally, e.g., to evaluate and improve our business, respond to any questions, requests or comments you make, for targeted marketing purposes, or to identify and prevent fraud, claims or other liabilities.
We offer notification services such as new services, products or table-of-contents or new book/article alerts and for other advertising. This service is provided by means of a double-opt-in. Thus, you will receive an email containing a link by which you can confirm that you are the owner of the email address and wish to be notified via our email service. Your email address will be retained as long as you subscribe to our newsletters.
If the personal information was provided to us by a third party, Tsinghua University Press may still use this information in the same manner as described above. You will have the chance to opt out of receiving such e-mails by unsubscribing or contacting the Tsinghua University Press customer service at email@example.com. If you inquired about a product or service and no longer wish to be contacted, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org, citing the name of the product or service, and request that your email address be removed.
If you need to create a personal login with us then we will store and process the following:
Information (such as your name, user name, email address or telephone number) that is provided by registration;
Information in connection with an account sign-in facility (e.g. log-in and password details);
Communications sent by you (e.g. via e-mail or website communication forms).
The information that is necessary for the performance of the service is labelled accordingly. All further information is provided voluntarily.
We will process the personal data you provide to:
Identify you at sign-in;
Provide you with the services and information offered through the website or which you request;
Administer your account;
Communicate with you;
(behavioural) Advertising and profiling;
Provide access (where appropriate) to other Tsinghua University Press content if you so request.
Registration data is kept until such time as an account deletion request is made. If such a request is received we will erase your data within 30 days. Statutory storage obligations or the need for legal actions that may arise from misconduct within the services or payment problems can lead to a longer retention of your personal data. In this case, we will inform you accordingly.
Without the user's permission, Tsinghua University Press will not provide, sell, rent, share or trade your personal information to third parties except for the following circumstances. In these situations, Tsinghua University Press may provide some or all of the information.
Disclosure to a third party or administrative or judicial institution in accordance with relevant provisions of the law or the requirements of administrative or judicial institutions.
If users violate relevant Chinese laws or Internet Policy, data need be disclosed to third parties.
In order to provide our products and services requested by users, users' personal data must be shared with third parties:
(1) The services provided by Alibaba Cloud include the function of registering an account or logging in with a SMS verification code.
(2) Used to share information to third-party platforms.
(3) Used for statistical analysis by third-party platform
(4) Third parties authorized by you to receive such information, such as third parties that facilitate the automatic update of your ORCID record.
Other situations that need to disclose, edit or disclose personal information: (1) Necessary for signing a contract according to your requirements. (2) Your personal information will be shared among our related products. (3) Used for safe and stable operation of this product, such as finding and handling faults.
Other circumstances stipulated by laws and regulations.
We use the following social media plug-ins: We-chat, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Sina Weibo. This allows you to communicate with such services and like or comment from our website. We have a share button, the button enables the user to share an article or a website of this homepage on the social media. According to the providers’ knowledge, third-part providers may collects the user IP-address and the website’s URL when the button is loaded from their servers. Social media plug-ins enable a direct communication between your device and the servers of the social media provider, allowing the social media provider to communicate with you and collect information about you browsing our website.
We use third-party content recommendation tools: Trend MD. At the bottom of the article page of our website, Trend MD cross-platform academic content recommendation module is inserted. This module may record personal data such as readers' reading behavior to accurately recommend journal articles closely related to the research field of this article.
Transfer of personal data takes place whether you have an account with third-party or not. Please note that we neither have the control of the extent of personal data that is collected by the respective plug-in provider nor do we know the processing’s purpose or the period your personal data will be retained.
When visiting our website, your browser may produce pop-up advertisements. These advertisements are produced by other websites you have previously visited or by third party software installed on your computer. Tsinghua University Press does not authorize, endorse, or recommend products or services contained in such pop-ups advertisements.
Our websites may use Baidu Statistics to help us collect information about how visitors use our sites. We use this information to compile reports and to help us improve the sites. Storage location: The personal data collected by us will be stored on the servers owned or rented by Tsinghua University Press, and your information will be stored in the People's Republic of China.

As a registered user, you can access your account at any time and make corrections or updates. In accordance with existing data privacy law, you may request the information that Tsinghua University Press holds or processes about you.
