Physics, as the cornerstone of modern technological civilization, has its scientific frontiers profoundly shaping social development and changing the contemporary world. However, there is a significant cognitive gap among humanities and social science students regarding modern physics frontiers. Bridging this knowledge gap is crucial for cultivating future talents with interdisciplinary vision. To this end, Renmin University of China has launched the general education course “Nobel Prize in Physics and Modern Physics,” aiming to fill the gap in modern physics knowledge for humanities and social science students and enhance their scientific literacy. The course uses the Nobel Prize in Physics as a thread, combines it with 21st-century engineering technology, and integrates modern physics with practical applications to help students understand the core ideas of modern physics and its impact on technological development and social progress. The course effectively breaks down the barriers between arts and sciences, cultivates students’ comprehensive literacy, and provides a reference for the construction of general education courses in science at universities.

In order to cultivate young talents with scientific literacy and innovative abilities, it is particularly crucial to establish a general physics course system tailored for undergraduate students. In the process of promoting educational and classroom reforms, the Physics Department of Renmin University of China has recently constructed a physics general education curriculum system for undergraduate students majoring in non-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) . This system aims to enhance students' scientific literacy and innovative abilities, specifically covering areas such as physical theory, experimental physics, and frontier technology. It mainly including courses such as “Conceptual Physics”, “General Education and Exploratory Experiments in Humanities Physics”, and “Nobel Prize in Physics and Modern Physics”. This paper introduces the top-level design ideas, key measures such as teaching content selection and classroom organization form in the construction of the system. Through a series of research and practice, the system has achieved remarkable results. Students have not only mastered the basic knowledge of physics through systematic learning, but also improved their scientific thinking abilities and innovative spirit. We will continue to carry out research on teaching reform in the future, constantly optimize the curriculum content, and provide support for cultivating innovative talents and improving undergraduate scientific literacy.
Physics courses are of great significance to the cultivation of young people in the new era with broad vision, multidimensional thinking, critical spirit. Renmin University of China (RUC) is one of the few schools that offer general physics courses for students majoring in humanities and social sciences. The “curriculum ideology and politics” has been integrated into physics courses for students majoring in humanities and social sciences. After years of practice on the Pedagogical Reform, on the basis of ensuring the curriculum standard, we have enriched background information, excavated the essence of education, and properly integrated the ideological and political elements into the course learning. While imparting professional knowledge, we should play a curricular value leading role from the aspects of thinking and understanding of disciplines, scientific attitude, humanistic quality, family and national feelings, collaborative innovation and so on. It enables students to broaden their thinking, extensive association, surpass the constraints of specific problems, and master a set of scientific methodology to deal with problems.
