With the frequent occurrences of global large-scale and local violent terrorist events, local conflicts, explosions of inflammable and explosive materials and coal mine gas explosion, and other accidents, the incidence of explosion impact injury is increasing every year. The lung is one of the most vulnerable target organs in blast injury. Due to its high incidence, high mortality and lack of early effective evaluation methods, lung blast injury has attracted extensive attention in the medical field. The development of new protective materials for lung blast injury, early active injury assessment and real-time dynamic disease monitoring are of great significances for the prevention and treatment of patients. Here we discuss the clinical and research progress of lung blast injury based on basic (mechanism, protective materials, etc.) and clinical research hotspots (evaluation, ultrasonic diagnosis, etc.).

The field surgery of our army began in the year of 1927, and has gone through 4 stages, namely, foundation stage, accumulation stage, mature development stage and strategic promotion stage. It has developed into a national key discipline and an internationally recognized leader. In the 1980s, the pioneering generation of military medical experts in Third Military Medical University devoted themselves to national interests, integrated military service with civilian health care, served major national needs, and combined wartime trauma with peacetime trauma. Those endeavors promoted the development of traumatic medicine throughout China. Especially in the past 40 years, China's trauma medicine has made historic achievements and undergone historic changes, now has both a national key laboratory and a clinical medical center, and has established itself as a strategic scientific and technological force serving the major needs of the country.
