Abstract

The field surgery of our army began in the year of 1927, and has gone through 4 stages, namely, foundation stage, accumulation stage, mature development stage and strategic promotion stage. It has developed into a national key discipline and an internationally recognized leader. In the 1980s, the pioneering generation of military medical experts in Third Military Medical University devoted themselves to national interests, integrated military service with civilian health care, served major national needs, and combined wartime trauma with peacetime trauma. Those endeavors promoted the development of traumatic medicine throughout China. Especially in the past 40 years, China's trauma medicine has made historic achievements and undergone historic changes, now has both a national key laboratory and a clinical medical center, and has established itself as a strategic scientific and technological force serving the major needs of the country.
