The spin-forbidden effect of O₂ restricts ·O₂^– production and significantly hinders the efficiency of photocatalytic disinfection. Inspiringly, however, In₂S₃/Mo_4/3B_2-xT_z MBene (IS/MB) hybrids have recently been developed to promote ·O₂^– production and photocatalytic disinfection further through the spin-polarization effect induced by atomic strain, demonstrating a 16.59-fold increase in ·O₂^– photocatalytic production under low dissolved oxygen (2.46 mg L⁻¹) conditions.
