Objective

To compare the angles of the reference plane and different occlusal plane determined by experienced dentists and primary dentists in order to study the effect of occlusal plane plate.

Methods

15 experienced dentists and 15 newly-graduated dentists independently fabricated wax occlusal rims by the Fox plane-guide. The intersection angle between the reference plane and the occlusal plane was measured and compared.

Results

There was statistically significant differences (t = -4. 668, P < 0. 001) between the experienced dentists (0. 2 ± 0. 1) and newly-graduated dentists (0. 6 ± 0. 2) in the intersection angles of anterior occlusal plane and reference plane, but there was no clinical references because both are closer to zero degrees. A significant differences (t = -13. 378, P < 0. 001) can be detected between the experienced dentists (0. 9 ± 0. 4) and newly-graduated dentists (3. 4 ± 0. 6) in the intersection angles of posterior occlusal plane and reference plane, which the former was more closer to zero degrees than the latter.

Conclusion

Both the experienced dentist and newly-graduated dentists can make the anterior occlusal rim accurately with the help of the Fox plane-guide. But the newly-graduated dentists are less capable to observe and orient the posterior occlusal rim compared to experienced dentists, and need more training in this area.

Objectives

To analyze the effects of occlusal laser appliance when used by newly-graduated dentists, by measuring the occlusal rim namely the intersection angle between reference plane and occlusal plane, and comparing the results with Fox plane-guide.

Methods

The wax occlusal rims were fabricated on manikins by 15 newly-graduated dentists with Fox plane-guide and occlusal laser appliance respectively, and the occlusal rims were measured and compared.

Results

There was no statistically significant differences (t = 0.618, P = 0.542) between Fox plane-guide group (0.7 ± 0.3)° and occlusal laser appliance group (0.6 ± 0.4)° in the anterior area, while it was statistically significant (t = 3.302, P = 0.007) between Fox plane-guide group (3.1 ± 2.1)° and occlusal laser appliance group (1.4 ± 0.8)° in the posterior area. The intersection angles in occlusal laser appliance group were smaller than that in Fox plane-guide group.

Conclusion

It is effective to make occlusal rims with Fox plane-guide or occlusal laser appliance by newly-graduated dentists, and it is more efficient to use occlusal laser appliance for the posterior occlusal rims.

Objective

To observe the clinical effect of two-direction inclined maxillary sinus floor augmentation from alveolar crest.

Methods

Sinus floor were augmented on the same site from two directions with the transalveolar technique. Firstly, lower sinus floor were augmented from the non-implant direction. Secondly, sinus floor were augmented with simultaneous placement of dental implants from the presupposed implant direction.

Results

Postoperative cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) proved good effects of sinus floor augmentation, with satisfactory positional relationship with the adjacent teeth. The implant tips were covered by mucous, with no nasal hemorrhagic secretions and no obvious pain. No implant fell off within 6 months after surgery.

Conclusion

Two-direction maxillary sinus floor augmentation from alveolar crest is a possible choice to augment inclined maxillary sinus floor.
