The pressure characteristics and structural deformation mechanism of aluminum honeycomb sandwich plates (AHSPs) under water-entry impact were investigated through experimental methods. A self-designed drop experimental platform in the water tank was established, and the water-entry impact experiments of AHSPs at different drop heights were carried out. Meanwhile, the deformation of the face sheets was measured by a 3D scanner, and the time history of water impact pressure at different measuring points was monitored. Furthermore, the repeatability of the experiment was verified. On this basis, the water impact load characteristics of AHSPs during the process of water entry were studied and compared with those of other structures in published papers. In addition, the deformation modes and permanent deflection characteristics of AHSPs were analyzed, and the fitting formulas of the permanent deflection of the face sheets and the compression of the core were proposed. Results show that the distribution of the water impact pressure on the front sheet of AHSPs is uneven. However, within the range of drop heights studied, the peak value of the water impact pressure is approximately linear with the drop height. Additionally, compared to the water entry of rigid plates, the peak value of the water impact pressure of AHSPs is smaller. Compared with the mass equivalent aluminum plates, the peak value of the water impact pressure of AHSPs is much smaller, while the pressure duration of AHSPs is longer. The deformation modes of the face sheets of AHSPs at different drop heights are almost the same. Besides, with the increase of the drop height, the permanent deflections of the front and back faces of AHSPs increase approximately in the form of a quadratic parabola with decreasing slope. Suffering from water entry impact loadings, the permanent deflections of the back sheet of AHSPs are smaller than those of the equivalent aluminum plates, indicating that the AHSPs have better impact resistance compared with the equivalent aluminum plates.

This paper aims to study the slamming-induced elasto-plastic response of aluminum structures.
In this paper, an aluminum scale model based on the hull structure of a real ship is designed, then drop tests of aluminum stiffened plates with a deadrise angle of 0° are conducted from different drop heights to investigate the slamming pressure and structural dynamic elastoplastic response. Finally, the slamming drop tests are validated by adopting explicit finite element technology based on the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Euler (ALE) algorithm.
The test results show that the saturated impulse phenomenon exists, and the final deformation of the stiffened plate is approximately linearly related to the drop height. The slamming pressure acting on the plate can be regarded as uniformly distributed. The numerical predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results.
The study provides experimental data on the aluminum stiffened plate structure design for high-speed aluminum ships and underwater vehicles.
The springback is the main factor affecting the forming quality of hull plates in the cold forming process. To improve the forming quality, it is necessary to investigate springback prediction, obtain the appropriate springback control method and further guide the die design.
A fully convolutional network (FCN) is used to perform pixel-level calculations and regression calculation on the springback image so as to achieve springback prediction for each forming position on the sheet. In this study, a finite element (FE) model is established using ABAQUS 2019, and the numerical results are validated by the experimental results. The verified model is then applied to obtain the training sample set. The workpiece geometric information is used as the input of the neural network to retain all the information of the image, and the TensorFlow Core V2.2.0 platform is used to build the FCN based on different convolutional neural network models. Finally, the pros and cons of different neural networks are compared, and the optimal network is applied to the die design.
The results show that the maximum error of the predicted springback is 8.49%, where the constructed FCN32 has the highest accuracy. The proposed model can also realize one-time mould design with a calculation time of only 0.5 seconds and a maximum error of only 1.00%, significantly improving calculation efficiency.
The FCN-based algorithm proposed herein provides a springback prediction method for strips with high accuracy and efficiency, as well as offering a new approach to quick mould design.
