We present an effective spectral matching method based on a shape association graph for finding region correspondences between two cel animation keyframes. We formulate the correspondence problem as an adapted quadratic assignment problem, which comprehensively considers both the intrinsic geometric and topology of regions to find the globally optimal correspondence. To simultaneously represent the geometric and topological similarities between regions, we propose a shape association graph (SAG), whose node attributes indicate the geometric distance between regions, and whose edge attributes indicate the topological distance between combined region pairs. We convert topological distance to geometric distance between geometric objects with topological features of the pairs, and introduce Kendall shape space to calculate the intrinsic geometric distance. By utilizing the spectral properties of the affinity matrix induced by the SAG, our approach can efficiently extract globally optimal region correspondences, even if shapes have inconsistent topology and severe deformation. It is also robust to shapes undergoing similarity transformations, and compatible with parallel computing techniques.

Isometric 3D Shape Partial Matching Using GD-DNA
Journal of Computer Science and Technology 2018, 33 (6): 1178-1191
Published: 19 November 2018

Isometric 3D shape partial matching has attracted a great amount of interest, with a plethora of applications ranging from shape recognition to texture mapping. In this paper, we propose a novel isometric 3D shape partial matching algorithm using the geodesic disk Laplace spectrum (GD-DNA). It transforms the partial matching problem into the geodesic disk matching problem. Firstly, the largest enclosed geodesic disk extracted from the partial shape is matched with geodesic disks from the full shape by the Laplace spectrum of the geodesic disk. Secondly, Generalized Multi-Dimensional Scaling algorithm (GMDS) and Euclidean embedding are conducted to establish final point correspondences between the partial and the full shape using the matched geodesic disk pair. The proposed GD-DNA is discriminative for matching geodesic disks, and it can well solve the anchor point selection problem in challenging partial shape matching tasks. Experimental results on the Shape Retrieval Contest 2016 (SHREC’16) benchmark validate the proposed method, and comparisons with isometric partial matching algorithms in the literature show that our method has a higher precision.

3D Face Similarity Measure by Fréchet Distances of Geodesics
Journal of Computer Science and Technology 2018, 33 (1): 207-222
Published: 26 January 2018

3D face similarity is a critical issue in computer vision, computer graphics and face recognition and so on. Since Fréchet distance is an effective metric for measuring curve similarity, a novel 3D face similarity measure method based on Fréchet distances of geodesics is proposed in this paper. In our method, the surface similarity between two 3D faces is measured by the similarity between two sets of 3D curves on them. Due to the intrinsic property of geodesics, we select geodesics as the comparison curves. Firstly, the geodesics on each 3D facial model emanating from the nose tip point are extracted in the same initial direction with equal angular increment. Secondly, the Fréchet distances between the two sets of geodesics on the two compared facial models are computed. At last, the similarity between the two facial models is computed based on the Fréchet distances of the geodesics obtained in the second step. We verify our method both theoretically and practically. In theory, we prove that the similarity of our method satisfies three properties: reflexivity, symmetry, and triangle inequality. And in practice, experiments are conducted on the open 3D face database GavaDB, Texas 3D Face Recognition database, and our 3D face database. After the comparison with iso-geodesic and Hausdorff distance method, the results illustrate that our method has good discrimination ability and can not only identify the facial models of the same person, but also distinguish the facial models of any two different persons.
