Overview
Research in Government and Economics is a Chinese-language academic journal founded in 2025 by the Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT), Tsinghua University. It is supervised by the Ministry of Education of China, sponsored by Tsinghua University, and published by Tsinghua University Press.
The journal is dedicated to advancing the disciplinary development of Government and Economics—an emerging branch of economics—with a particular focus on government as a direct participant in modern market economies. It examines governmental behavior and the underlying incentive mechanisms, aiming to improve government incentives, better leverage the role of government, and promote high-quality development of the market economy.
The journal recognizes the significant value of Government and Economics within the broader framework of modern economics. At the theoretical level, it confronts a fundamental economic reality: governments are not only rule-makers but also direct actors in market activities, and their behavior profoundly shapes the trajectory of market economies—filling an important gap in contemporary economic theory. At the practical level, the lessons drawn from China’s economic miracle and the development experiences of other countries and regions urgently need to be distilled into economic theories that can guide China’s further high-quality development and benefit the global community.
Research in Government and Economics strives for significant topic selection, efficient editorial processes, and broad impact. Adhering to rigorous academic standards and maintaining an open and inclusive dialogue, the journal supports the development of Government and Economics, fosters theoretical innovation grounded in China’s economic practice yet possessing general explanatory power, and contributes valuable insights to the construction of an autonomous knowledge system for Chinese social sciences.
