Description:

Africa represents a highly diverse reservoir of traditional foods, medicinal plants, edible fungi, and microbial resources with potential nutritional and therapeutic values. Many African food resources have historically been consumed not only as sources of nutrients but also for their health-promoting properties, reflecting the concept of Food and Medicine Homology.

Recent advances in food science, biotechnology, metabolomics, foodomics, and molecular biology provide new opportunities to scientifically investigate these resources. The identification of bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, peptides, polyphenols, terpenoids, and microbial metabolites, has opened new avenues for functional food development and nutraceutical applications.

Food & Medicine Homology Resources invites submissions to this special issue, which aims to collect cutting-edge research on African food–medicine homology resources, emphasizing the discovery, characterization, mechanisms, and industrial utilization of bioactive components from traditional foods, medicinal plants, edible fungi, and fermentation-derived resources.
