Safety Emergency Science (SES) is an international, high-quality comprehensive academic journal in the fields of safety science and emergency management cosponsored by the School of Safety Science, Tsinghua University, and the China Association of Work Safety and officially launched in 2025. It aims to report theoretical research and cutting-edge technological innovations in safety science, emergency management, and related interdisciplinary fields, establishing a high-level platform that leads disciplinary development and promotes international academic exchange.

To gather new academic forces, enhance the journal’s academic vitality and influence, and provide a platform for young scientific and technological talents to develop their capabilities, the Editorial Office is now openly recruiting the Young Editorial Board members globally. We warmly welcome outstanding young scholars who have achieved remarkable results in safety science, emergency management, and related fields to apply and join us in building academic excellence.

1) Target applications

• Young scholars have engaged in research related to safety science, emergency management, disaster prevention and mitigation, risk assessment, safety monitoring and early warning, emergency equipment and technology, and other relevant fields.
• Applicants should generally be under 45 years of age (exceptions may be made for qualified outside candidates) and hold a position of associate professor/senior researcher or above or have obtained a doctoral degree.

2) Benefits for Young Editorial Board Members

• Official certificate: Successful applicants will receive a formal appointment letter, as “Young Editorial Board Member of Safety Emergency Science”, issued by the sponsoring organizations and valid for a two-year term.
• Academic showcase: High-quality manuscripts for which the Young Editorial Board Member is the first author or corresponding author will be granted priority for rapid publication upon successful peer review.
• Enhanced academic influence: Opportunities to participate in the planning and organization of special issues/topical collections, potentially serving as a guest editor, significantly increasing personal visibility and influence in the academic community.
• Reappointment and promotion: Outstanding members during their term will be given priority for reappointment upon expiration and may be considered for promotion to the full Editorial Board.

3) Responsibilities of Young Editorial Board Members

• Active contribution: Submit at least one high-quality research article to the journal as the first author or corresponding author during the term of appointment.
• Peer review: Be available to serve as a peer reviewer upon invitation, providing impartial, rigorous, and efficient review reports for the journal.
• Academic promotion: Actively promote and recommend the journal at domestic and international academic conferences and exchanges, assisting in enhancing the journal’s academic reputation.
• Provide suggestions: Participate in topic selection and provide constructive opinions on the journal’s development direction, column setup, and quality improvement.
• Contribution solicitation and recommendation: Actively recommend high-quality manuscripts from outstanding scholars worldwide or assist in organizing special issues/topical collections in relevant fields.

4) Application procedure

5) Selection process

• The Editorial Office will organize experts to conduct a comprehensive review of all applications. The final list of selected members will be announced on the journal’s official website and the official WeChat account of the China Association of Work Safety, and successful applicants will be notified formally.
