Modern medicine is undergoing a profound transformation, shifting from reactive disease treatment to a more proactive approach that integrates health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, control, treatment, and rehabilitation. This evolution demands reimagining healthcare with intelligent systems that integrate personalized care and population health insights, and connect bridging brief clinical interactions with lifelong wellness strategies. Computer vision and AI are pivotal to this shift. For example, they can transform retinal scans into predictors of future heart disease, enable surgical robots to adapt to real-time organ movements, and turn urban pollution maps into tools for preventing asthma outbreaks. However, critical challenges remain. These include integrating fragmented data from wearables, genomic profiles, and medical imaging into coherent health journeys, balancing AI’s predictive power with ethical patient care, and designing privacy-preserving systems that can learn from decades of medical histories.
This special issue invites pioneering research at the intersection of computer vision and healthcare innovation. We seek submissions that advance vision methodologies and their translational applications.
