Education and working experience: Prof. Liu received his Bachelor degree in Clinical Medicine from Zunyi Medical University, China in 1983, master degree from Third Military Medical University in 1986, and his Ph.D. from Sun Yat-Sen University in 1992.

Academic background: He was the past president of the International Society of Complementary Medicine Research (www.iscmr.org) between 2017 and 2019; an advisor of WHO Traditional Medicine; a senior research fellow, National Research Center in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, The Arctic University of Norway; an adjunct professor, University of Western Sydney, Australia (2015‒2017). He also served as the editors of Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group, European Journal of Integrative Medicine, BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, Complementary Therapies in Medicine, Integrative Medicine Research, Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Journal of Integrative Medicine, Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine, Perspectives in Integrative Medicine, World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences.

Research interests and publication: His research interest mainly includes evidence-based medicine in the evaluation of clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine. He has published over 300 SCI papers in journals including JAMA, BMJ, Ann Intern Med, Cochrane Library, Scientific Reports, PLoS One, Systematic Reviews, and Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine, etc.

Nicola Robinson

Affiliation: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Integrated Health, London South Bank University

Education and working experience: Prof. Nicola Robinson received BSc (Hons) Biological sciences from Leicester University and PhD in immunology from Manchester University. Previous appointments include professor of complementary medicine (University of West London), consultant epidemiologist (Brent and Harrow Health Authority), senior lecturer in the Department of Primary Care, University College London, and research fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, lecturer at Westminster Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital Medical school (Imperial College) and researcher at St Mary’s Hospital, London. She is a visiting professor in the Centre for Evidence-based Chinese Medicine, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Emeritus Professor at London South Bank University.

Academic background: She studied acupuncture, becoming a registered acupuncturist in1982. She was awarded Fellowship of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) in 2008 and chaired the BAcC’s research committee for over 10 years. Prof. Nicola Robinson is a founding member of the Good Practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Association (GPTCM-RA) and chairs their Special interest group on acupuncture. She was Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Integrative Medicine between 2011 and 2022 and sits on the editorial boards of various academic journals, such as Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences, Integrative Medicine Research, Perspectives on Integrative Medicine, etc.

Research interests and publication: Her research interests include interventions such as acupuncture, taichi, herbal medicine and conditions such as stroke, diabetes, HIV disease, women health, cancer, pain, and respiratory disease. She has published over 250 articles in peer review journals in the fields of traditional medicine, public health and epidemiology.
