Abstract

As a pivotal technology in aerospace fabrication, deep-hole boring is extensively utilized for the precision engineering of high-aspect-ratio tubular members. Constrained by semi-enclosed operating conditions and the inherent low-stiffness of slender cantilevered boring bars, the process is susceptible to dynamic instabilities. These vibrational behaviors deterministically affect the surface integrity, subsequently governing the fatigue performance and assembly. In addition, the inherently low stiffness of the slender boring bar makes the process system prone to regenerative chatter, seriously restricting the hole wall forming quality. Therefore, under complex deep hole machining conditions, it has become an urgent need to deeply explore the dynamic evolution rules of deep hole boring systems and carry out reliable stability prediction and real-time online monitoring to break through the bottleneck of high-precision machining. Based on this, this article systematically reviews the current chatter control and stability prediction methods for deep hole boring processing, focuses on analyzing the advantages and limitations of the current technology, and looks forward to the development trend of intelligent deep hole processing in the future.
