Abstract

Critical thinking skill is an important attribute of innovative talents, and deep engagement serves as a core factor driving its development. As a classic framework for participatory learning, the BOPPPS model still requires further research on its effects in boosting classroom engagement and facilitating the development of critical thinking. Against this background, this study designed participatory learning activities based on the BOPPPS model and implemented two rounds of instructional intervention within a single 90-minute class session by taking 65 sophomores majoring in Educational Technology at D University in Jilin Province as research participants. This paper examined the effects of participatory teaching intervention on students’critical thinking development and explored the relationship between critical thinking development and learning satisfaction. The results demonstrated that participatory teaching grounded in the BOPPPS model can significantly enhance students’overall critical thinking competency, facilitate stronger connections between middle and high-order critical thinking skills, and higher satisfaction with participatory learning further contributed to the cultivation of critical thinking. This research aimed to provide empirical evidence and classroom design references for critical thinking cultivation through participatory teaching.
