Abstract

Teacher noticing influences teaching decision-making, and cultivating and developing pre-service teachers noticing is beneficial to improving educational quality. Video clubs have been proven to be an important carrier for improving teacher noticing in Western classroom situations. Based on this, the paper conducted four intervention activities of video clubs for 11 pre-service mathematics teachers. Firstly, using cognitive network analysis methods, the development pattern of pre-service mathematics teachers noticing was described. Subsequent, the analysis was conducted the effects of classroom videos and promoting behaviors on pre-service mathematics teachers noticing. The results showed that the noticing of pre-service teachers who participated in the video clubs was developed, going through a process of attention content from dispersion to concentration and attention stance from wavering to stability; the videos with specific characteristics improved the pre-service teachers noticing; relevant promoting behaviors triggered high-level noticing of pre-service teachers; video clubs functioned as a critical pathway for developing pre-service teacher noticing. The research in this paper revealed the internal mechanism by which video clubs promoted the development of pre-service teachers noticing, which was helpful for improving the teaching competence of pre-service teachers and providing a reference for designing teacher education courses.
