Abstract

To address the teaching challenges in Solid State Physics courses, such as the abstract nature of band theory and the disconnection between theory and practice, this paper takes the design of a voltage signal amplifier based on the non-Hermitian skin effect as a Project-Based Learning (PBL) teaching case. Closely aligned with the measurement requirements of vector acoustic sensors, this project is grounded in band theory, extends the topological properties of non-Hermitian systems, and leverages the bulk localization mechanism of the non-Hermitian skin effect. By adjusting capacitance parameters to satisfy the non-Bloch phase factor condition |β|>1, exponential amplification of voltage across circuit nodes is achieved. During the teaching process, students are involved in the entire workflow, including feasibility analysis, simulation calculation, prototype fabrication, and testing. This not only deepens their understanding of band theory and non-Hermitian physics but also hones their interdisciplinary practical skills and scientific research capabilities. The case provides a feasible pathway for the teaching transformation of “theory-project-application” in Solid State Physics.
