Abstract

Against the backdrop of the rapid development of the fourth technological revolution and disruptive technologies, new requirements have been put forward for talent cultivation in order to promote original innovation and gain a leading position in global science and technology. In this context, strengthening the cultivation of top innovative talent in foundational disciplines has become increasingly important. Foundational courses in mathematics and physics play a fundamental role in talent cultivation, and the development of innovative talent should begin with these basic courses and be reinforced at the source. Taking the course Mathematical Methods for Physics as an example, this study explores a new teaching model through course-content optimization and the construction of academic seminar classes. By integrating mathematical tools with physical applications, the model emphasizes the cultivation of physical reasoning and practical ability. It aims to move beyond the traditional view of undergraduate foundational mathematics and physics courses as merely instrumental and basic, and to further explore their source-level driving role in cultivating the innovative abilities of top talents. This study provides a student-centered and effective teaching model for foundational courses in the cultivation of innovative talent in the new era.
