Abstract

Drawing on the writings of the renowned physicist Yang Chen-Ning, this paper focuses on what it regards as the primary mission among the three traditional responsibilities of university teachers—imparting the Dao, teaching professional knowledge, and resolving students’ doubts. It first clarifies the connotation of “Dao” in the context of science education, then discusses how the Dao may be conveyed in the teaching process, and finally expounds the essential criteria for discovering or creating the Dao, namely perception, persistence, and intellectual strength. The insights drawn from Yang Chen-Ning’s writings may provide meaningful guidance for science teachers in universities.
