Abstract

Reprinting Hao Bailin’s 1988 article “Three Hundred Years of Newtonian Mechanics” is not only a tribute to a classic but also provides intellectual resources for today’s complex systems research. To grasp the depth of Newtonian mechanics and understand the classical origins of complex systems is to seek inspiration through a dialogue between the classical and the modern—the essential significance of re-reading the article.
