The proportion of Modern Physics in the current curriculum system of General Physics is very small due to the limitation of total class hours. Meanwhile, because of the rapid progress of modern science and technology, the update of knowledge system in most General Physics textbooks are significantly lagging behind the rapid development of modern physics and technology. Therefore, the current curriculum system of General Physics cannot meet the new requirements of “new engineering” for talent cultivation, nor is it conducive to the integration of science and education and the cross disciplinary development. In view of this, we have constructed a curriculum system for “Modern Physics Special Topics” for new engineering majors, in order to effectively address the serious deficiencies in teaching and learning modern physics knowledge in university physics courses and improve the quality of talent cultivation in the context of “new engineering”. The modern physics thematic curriculum system focuses on the curriculum concept and objectives of “establishing a solid foundation and ascend to lofty and far-reaching”. It adhers to the fundamental theory of “rooted” Modern Physics, and teaching basic theoretical knowledge of Nuclear Physics, Quantum Physics, Solid State Physics, and Laser Physics. At the same time, by combining cutting-edge lectures from various branches of physics, we aim to teach the fundamental theory and the corresponding high-tech applications of modern physics, enhance the high-level nature of the curriculum, and enable students to “ascend to lofty and far-reaching”. By using self-made subject integration cases and practical application of scientific computing software, and combining qualitative analysis with quantitative calculation methods, students are guided to solve scientific problems in related subjects, enhancing the innovation and challenge levels of the curriculum. Moreover, the curriculum adopts an online platform and combines online and offline four-dimensional spatio-temporal expansion teaching. After five years of practice, the curriculum philosophy and objectives have been achieved, and good learning feedback has been received from the students.
