Crystal defects are key factors that affect material properties. Dislocation theory is an important basis for improving material strength and has emerged as the cornerstone in today's doctrine of crystal plasticity and material strengthening. Due to the complex concepts and abstract theories, students often struggle to establish a complete understanding of crystal defects and dislocation theory during the learning process, leading to alack of ability to solve complicated material engineering problems by means of dislocation theory. This paper starts from the fundamental laws of crystal deformation and dislocation movement, focusing on the challenging aspects of dislocation interactions in the teaching process. It guides students in deducing the transformation processes between point, line, plane, and volume defects. Advanced scientific research and practical engineering issues are integrated into the teaching, deepening the students' understanding of the knowledge and theory of crystal defects. Finally, a systematic summary of the teaching practice and innovative teaching methods of crystal defect and dislocation theory was conducted around the ideology education, critical thinking and process assessment.
