Highlights

(1) Driving a paradigm shift in the food and medicine homology field from traditional experience-based practices to a scientific, systematic, and precise methodology.

(2) Advocating for a paradigm shift in mechanistic research, moving away from simple linear models towards an integrated comprehension of intricate biological networks and systems biology.

(3) Developing a novel proactive health management system with dynamic individual data, incorporating real-time optimization and adaptive adjustment features.

(4) Facilitating the intelligent and eco-friendly upgrade of the entire industrial chain from raw material innovation to ecological construction, by integrating advanced technologies.

(5) Elevating the provision of health products by integrating lifestyle, cultural experiences, and synergistic ecosystem into comprehensive health solutions.

Graphical Abstract

This perspective systematically outlines the developmental framework for food and medicine homology in 2026. It begins with establishing a foundation of trust and standardization as cornerstone, including scientific expansion of substance list, comprehensive standards and safety control across the entire chain, and the construction of high-level evidence. The materials basis and related mechanisms are elucidated through fundamental elements such as precise identification of active components, gut microbiota interaction mechanisms, and discovery of non-classical mechanisms. At the application level, personalized data and AI platforms are constructed to develop precision nutrition intervention strategies targeting chronic diseases and the entire life cycle. Emerging resource exploration, scenario-based product development, and sustainable industrial ecosystem construction are achieved through translational research. Key technologies such as AI-driven revolution, smart nano delivery systems, synthetic biology, and green processing are driven by cutting-edge innovations. Finally, interdisciplinary integration expands into fields including neuroscience, health-preserving cultural tourism, and traditional knowledge mining, forming a complete closed-loop system from scientific foundations to industrial and societal value realization.
