Abstract

In order to improve the rock breaking performance of PDC cutters, we designed a new non planar cutter and established the rock breaking finite element simulation model of this new non planar cutter. On the basis of this, we studied the rock breaking process of the new non planar cutter and the effects of ridge length, ridge inclination, bevel angle, depth of cut and rake angle on the rock breaking specific energy of the new non planar cutter. The research results show that the concave curved surface in the middle of the new non planar cutter makes the rock volume broken, and its rock breaking efficiency is higher than that of the ridge teeth; With the increase of ridge length, the rock breaking specific energy and cutting force of the new non planar cutter show a trend of increasing at first and then approach the same trend; The rock breaking specific energy and cutting load of the new ridge cutter decrease with the increase of the bevel angle. Considering the service life of the cutter edge, the bevel angle should be 10 ° ~ 20 °; The cutting force and rock breaking specific energy of the new non planar cutter increase with the increase of ridge inclination; With the increase of cutting depth, The rock breaking specific energy of the new non planar cutter increases firstly and then decreases, and the optimal cutting depth should be greater than the length of its ridge; The cutting force and rock breaking specific energy of the new non planar cutter first decrease and then increase with the increase of rake angle, and the optimal rake angle is 15 °.
