Abstract

The development trend of deepening and three-dimensional composite development and utilization of underground space in China has brought about serious challenges in terms of safety, and deep underground space is difficult to escape and rescue in emergencies due to limited redundancy of exits, spatial complexity, long evacuation distances, etc., which can easily result in injuries and deaths. The usage of elevator-assisted evacuation is a potentially effective method for solving the evacuation problems in deep underground spaces, but it has not yet been included in the regulations. At this stage, there is a lack of guiding norms for elevator-assisted evacuation of deep underground spaces in China, insufficient research on design theory, and many gaps in research on personnel behavior, policy management and other factors. By reviewing the relevant research results and development of elevator evacuation in recent years, the article compiles the main status of elevator-assisted evacuation, its advantages and challenges, and proposes an interdisciplinary conceptual framework for future research. The study provides a reference for future research and practice of elevator safety evacuation in deep underground spaces.
