Abstract

Southwest China is an area with a relatively low level of economic and social development in China, with a large number of population outflows. Exploring the willingness of registered floating population in Southwest China to migrate within the province and promoting the medium and short range migration of population are of great significance to scientifically understand the migration law and citizenization mode of the floating population in underdeveloped areas, promote the people-oriented new urbanization process, and achieve regional coordinated development. This research is based on the China migrants dynamic survey in 2017, and comprehensively uses the Theil index, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and multilevel logistic regression model to study the spatial distribution and mechanism of registered floating population's migration willingness within the province from the perspective of the outflow area in Southwest China. The findings are as follows: (1)The overall level of the registered floating population's willingness to migrate within the province in Southwest China is relatively low. According to the scope of mobility, the intention is highest for moving across cities within the provinces, followed by moving across counties within the city, and the lowest for returning home across provinces; divided by provincial boundaries, Yunnan Province has the highest intention, followed by Chongqing City and Guizhou Province, and Sichuan Province has the lowest intention.(2)The spatial pattern of the intra-provincial migration willingness of the floating population with household registration in Southwest China generally shows a differentiation pattern of high in the southwest and low in the northeast, and has obvious spatial agglomeration characteristics.(3)The willingness to reside within the province of Southwest China is influenced by both individual and regional factors, with individual factors having a more significant impact on the willingness to reside within the province of Southwest China.
