Laboratory safety is of paramount importance in the safety management of universities, and the establishment of a laboratory safety accountability system is imperative. This paper provides an overview of the exploration and practice at a certain university, including the improvement of the laboratory safety accountability system, delineation of four categories of responsible entities, specification of the objects and methods of accountability, classification of accountable hazards and accidents, and the proposal of a severity grading standard applicable to the university context. These efforts, in practice, have strengthened the management system, fostered systematic awareness, and provided a model for the enhancement of laboratory safety accountability in other universities.
