Abstract

To study the dynamic response during the berthing process of ships and fender structures and to guide the safe conduct of ship berthing operations. The finite element software ABAQUS was used to simulate the berthing process of a 100000 m3 membrane-type liquified natural gas(LNG) ship at Qingdao LNG terminal. The deformation of the fender, the energy between the ship and the fender, and the changes in interaction forces at different berthing speeds were analyzed. The results show that the maximum safe berthing speed for a 100000 t ship at Qingdao LNG terminal is 0.1 m/s. The research results can provide some reference for ship berthing operations.
