Attapulgite has been widely studied and used for heavy metal adsorption materials due to its excellent ion exchange ability and complexation properties. In this study, 500-ATP-OH as highly efficient adsorbent was successfully prepared by alkaline thermal modification technology. The material has excellent performance in adsorbing Cd (Ⅱ) and Pb (Ⅱ). The modified attapulgite realizes the optimization of crystal structure through ion exchange, and increases the specific surface area and pore volume of the material. The results showed that the adsorption and removal rate of 500-ATP-OH for Cd (Ⅱ) was as high as 99%, and the adsorption capacity was 123 mg/g. The adsorption removal rate of Pb (Ⅱ) reached 100%, and the adsorption capacity was as high as 331 mg/g. The results revealed that 500-ATP-OH, as a low-cost and environmentally friendly material, had great application potential in treating water polluted by heavy metals.
