Abstract

Significance

In the process of globalization, ceramic products, as a crucial symbol of Chinese culture, play a significant role in promoting the image of Chinese culture. In this work, based on Bernstein's code theory, the functional mechanisms of elaborated codes and restricted codes in the dissemination of ceramic products were deeply analyzed, while the strategies for code balance were explored. Not only theoretical support and practical guidance were provided for optimizing the communication effectiveness of ceramic products, facilitating the bridging of cultural differences and enhancing cultural identity, but also the application of code theory in the field of cultural product dissemination was extended, which is of great value in inheriting and promoting Chinese ceramic culture and enhancing cultural soft power.

Progress

Analysis of the Code System: It is clarified that the codes of ceramic products cover four interrelated and dynamic aspects: Cultural meaning, design principles, organizational norms and audience principles. These are influenced by the social and cultural background and audience cognition, revealing their essential characteristics as a cultural dissemination carrier and a meaning communication system. Analysis of the Function of Codes: Elaborated codes and restricted codes are distinguished. The former conveys in-depth cultural information and highlights the uniqueness and artistry of the product, while the latter simplifies information and enhances universality and acceptance. Examples are used to illustrate their performance in the dissemination of different types of ceramic products and their connections with social classes and cultural backgrounds. Explanation of the Dissemination Process: It is revealed that the code dissemination of ceramic products involves complex encoding, decoding and audience cognitive differences. Elaborated code products with strong classification and strong framework are suitable for specific cultural and traditional occasions, while restricted code products with weak classification and weak framework are conducive to cross-cultural communication, demonstrating the characteristics and application scenarios of different codes. Exploration of Dynamic Balance: The critical influence of the balance between elaborated and restricted codes on communication effectiveness is deeply studied. The restrictive effects of cultural context and audience factors on code balance are analyzed, while strategies and methods for achieving code balance from the dual perspectives of cultural context and communication effectiveness are proposed.

Conclusions and prospects

It is demonstrated that both elaborated codes and restricted codes have their advantages and disadvantages in the cultural dissemination of ceramic products, whereas achieving the balance between them is the key to enhancing communication effectiveness. Future research should focus on the modern translation and innovative design of traditional codes, deeply analysis of the decoding habits of the audience, promotion of the precise dissemination of codes with the help of technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence, formulation of cross-cultural design principles, creation of ceramic products with both cultural characteristics and international market competitiveness, and further promotion of global dissemination and exchange of ceramic culture and enhancement in the international influence of Chinese culture.
