LYU Jingshan's experience in treatment of post-stroke depression with acupuncture and moxibustion

This paper introduces the clinical experience of Professor LYU Jingshan in the treatment of post-stroke depression with acupuncture and moxibustion. Professor LYU Jingshan believes that this disease results from the damage of brain marrow and dysfunction of mind activity, and was manifested as liver qi stagnation and interaction of phlegm and qi. The treatment emphasizes "treating the mind" as the primary approach, addressing the root causes and symptoms, and establishes the therapeutic principle of regulating the mind and controlling qi. In clinical practice, the acupuncture technique for regulating the mind and controlling qi, and LYUʹs umbilical medicine moxibustion are adopted. The paired acupoints, Baihui (GV20) and Shuigou (GV26), Shenmen (HT7) and Neiguan (PC6), are selected to regulate the mind and restore the controlling of qi and the governing of essence; Hegu (LI4) and Taichong (LR3), Fenglong (ST40) and Yinlingquan (SP9) are selected to regulate qi movement and recover the functions of liver and spleen in transportation and free flow of qi. During acupuncture, the needles are manipulated with two hands coordinately to obtain the synchronous therapeutic effect on post-stroke depression. This approach provides a new idea for the treatment of post-stroke depression.
