CFP-Special Issue on Challenges and Opportunities in Biomedical Big Data Analysis: From Large Language Models to Clinical Applications

The advent of high-throughput technologies in genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and imaging has led to an explosion of biomedical data, which presents both opportunities and challenges for researchers and clinicians. On one hand, the sheer volume and complexity of these data pose significant challenges for data analysis and interpretation. On the other hand, these data hold great promise for uncovering new insights into cellular functions, disease etiology and personalized therapeutic development. In particular, the development of Large Language Models (LLM) is critical for extracting meaningful information from large-scale biomedical datasets and translating these findings into clinical applications. To embrace the emerging challenges in understanding biomedical big data, this special issue will establish a venue to present innovative ideas and cutting-edge technological research outcomes across the global research communities. This special issue aims to highlight recent advances and challenges in the development of LLM algorithms and the corresponding clinical applications for biomedical data analysis. It also highlights ongoing investigations and new applications. Prospective submissions may fall into, but are not limited to the following categories:

  • Proteomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic-based disease diagnosis and biomarker discovery
  • Imaging & molecular imaging for disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring
  • Virtual drug screening and drug target discovery
  • Biomedical text mining
  • Biomedical data integration and databases
  • Diversity, phylogeography and evolution of highly pathogenic viruses
  • Single cell sequencing and medical applications
  • High performance computing on biomedical modeling and analysis
  • Artificial intelligence in smart medical devices
  • Internet of biomedical things

The authors are requested to submit their full research papers complying with the general scope of the journal. The submitted papers will undergo peer review process before they can be accepted. Notification of acceptance will be communicated as we progress with the review process. Free open access with no publication fee for authors now.
