abstract = {The essence chamber is recognized as a vital component of the male reproductive system. Asthenozoospermia, characterized by reduced sperm motility, is a common disorder affecting the essence chamber. The kidney governs reproduction, and the kidney essence is the foundation of reproduction. When the essence fails to be adequately nourished and the essence chamber fails to perform its function, the site responsible for generating reproductive essence becomes dysfunctional. Therefore, maintaining the homeostasis of the "essence chamber environment" constitutes a critical link in realizing the function of the kidney governing reproduction. Western medical research widely acknowledges that asthenozoospermia is closely associated with dysfunction of the testicular microenvironment, whereas traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) commonly regards kidney deficiency-induced essence chamber dysfunction as its core pathogenesis. Therefore, this paper introduces the concept of "essence chamber environment" to bridge the macro-level theory of TCM with the micro-level pathology of Western medicine. It further elucidates the TCM pathogenesis of asthenozoospermia, characterized by deficiency-cold, stagnation and stasis, turbidity accumulation, and essence impoverishment of "essence chamber environment," which closely corresponds to micro-level dysregulations in the testicular microenvironment, including microcirculation disturbance, hormonal disturbances, and oxidative stress. Within this integrative theoretical framework, this paper explores the distinctive value of acupuncture and moxibustion on asthenozoospermia as a holistic regulatory approach. Through the warming and reinforcing action of moxibustion, as well as the dredging-collateral and clearing-disinhibiting effect of acupuncture, the "essence chamber environment" can be systematically restored and remodeled. This study thereby provides a novel theoretical reference for integrating the "essence chamber environment" concept into the diagnosis and treatment of asthenospermia.}
