abstract = {The research history of fossil Phasmatodea is reviewed in this paper, focusing on the current status of taxonomic and phylogenetic studies. The diversity, localities and ages of all reported fossil taxa of Phasmatodea all over the world are overviewed. The mimicry and defense behavior revealed by Phasmatodea fossils are summarized, involving their early evolution of wings and mimicry related body characters. The existing problems in the studies of fossil Phasmatodea are discussed, along with an outlook on future research of Phasmatodea.}
